PAGURA NAMED BCMML RUNNER UP FOR JANUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Tristan for this award. His strong play at both ends of the ice and spectacular end to end offensive rushes were noticed by all. A draft pick of the WHL's Kelowna Rockets last Spring, his future certainly looks bright. Congratulations Tristan!

Whitlock named runner up for player of the month for December
Congratulations to Harrison. He was selected as runner-up for the month of December by the BCMML. He recorded a rare shutout for the ICE against the Silvertips and was argueably the best player on the ice that series. Way to go Harrison!

ICE HAVE TOUGH TIME CONTAINING MATT BARZAL AND NE CHIEFS
The ICE continue to struggle against the lower mainland powerhouse teams in the BCMML. The ICE ended the first half of the season, with a pair of lopsided losses, 11-2 and 7-1 on the weekend in Castlegar to the 4th place NE Chiefs.
First overall Bantam Draft pick from last year, Matt Barzal, did not dissapoint. The ICE had an undisciplined 2nd period in game 1. Barzal went to work, and ended the game with a whopping 10 points in the11-2 win. Coy Prevost led the way for the ICE with 1 g and 1 a. Tristan Pagura also scored on the PP. Assists went to Same Weber, Jeremy Lucchini and Daine Elphicke. Giving up only 24 shots, the ICE just could not defend the one timer pass from Barzal when short handed.
In game 2, it was more of the same. Bad penalties and Barzal were the difference. In both games the ICE were very much in the game trailing 3-1 and 1-0 respectively after each first period. Sookro from Post and Prevost on the PP were the only ICE point getters.
The ICE now go into a nearly 1 month break from game action. Next game action is January 12 and 13 against Thompson Blazers in Chase, then the all star weekend after that. The ICE next home game is not until January 26 and 27 against the Cariboo Cougars from Prince George in Nelson at the NDCC.

South Island Royals vs. Kootenay Ice Nov 3 & 4
ICE BATTLE HARD IN TOUGH WEEKEND SERIES
The Kootenay Ice entered the weekend on a high note after sweeping the Thompson Blazers the week before. With the South Island Royals from Victoria in town, another solid weekend was needed. The Royals sat in a playoff position entering the weekend, and the ICE were looking to use the pair of games as a stepping stone towards the team goal of making the playoffs this year.
On Saturday, the ICE gave up a late goal to the Royals and settled for a 5-5 tie. It was an up and down game with several lead changes throughout. Brandon Sookro and Justin Post continued their solid play of late with 1g-1a each. Game star was Brandon Smith, with 2g on the night, including the game tying goal and go ahead goal late in the third period. Other goals went to Trevor Van Steinberg, with assists to Coy Prevost and Daine Elphicke. Harrison Whitlock got the start in goal. This game also marked the inaugural ICE TV broadcast with play by play.
On Sunday morning, both teams renewed the battle. It was another early start at Cominco arena in Trail. The ICE knew how important this game had now become for both teams. The Royals were much better on Sunday, jumping out to period leads of 2-1, and 4-1 on their way to a 6-3 victory over the ICE. Adam Maida was scheduled to start in goal, but was unable to go, due to the flu, so Harrison Whitlock again was given the start in goal. Goals for the ICE went to the hardest working group, with Kane Roberts, Kyle Hope and Ryan Neil. Assists went to Justin Post with 2, Brandon Sookro and Brandon Smith.
Brandon Sookro continues to lead the ICE this season in points with 4g, 6a for 10 points, while warrior John Skeet leads the team with 42 PIM. Of note, Skeet and Daine Elphicke sit 6 and 7 overal in the BCMML after 12 games in PIM, with 42 and 40 respectively.
Our next game action is this weekend when we travel to Richmond where we play the 8th place Vancouver Canadians at the Richmond Oval. Please visit the Canadians website for a LIVE feed of the games from their website. Our next home action will be the 17th and 18th of November in CASTLEGAR, where we host the defending League and Provincial Champion Vancouver Giants. Both of those games will be broadcast live on our website, by going to the ICE TV tab.

Thompson Blazers vs Kootenay Ice October 28th
ICE MAKE TEAM HISTORY
The Kootenay Ice entered the BC Major League in 2006/07. In that time, through and with some very talented players, the ICE failed to accomplish one simple goal: SWEEP A WEEKEND SERIES IN THE BCMML
On Sunday, that distinction is now a memory. The 2012/13 team just accomplished several firsts on Sunday. The first multi-player, multiple point game. The first 2 wins of the season. Jumping 2 spots in the standings, and outshooting their first opponent to name a few. AS WELL, they finally accomplished the first sweep in TEAM history, by winning 6-5 in an up and down affair at Cominco Arena in Trail over the visiting Thompson Blazers.
The line of Justin Post, Nolan Percival and Brandon Sookro were dominating. The trio combined for 10 points, led by Brandon Sookro with 1-g-4a for a 5 point night. Percival with 2 and 1 and Post with 1-1, were joined by young bluenier Austin Tambellini with his first 2 points of the year with 1-1. Brandan Smith also chipped in from the blueline with 1-1 while other assists went to Daine Elphicke and Kane Roberts.
Adam Maida, followed up his victory yesterday, with another solid performance in goal, stopping 22 of 27 shots, many of the great variety. The ICE outshot the Blazers 31-27.
There is lots to be excited about, as we welcome another rival this coming weekend in Trail, in the visiting South Island Royals based in Victoria. Another weekend sweep would go a long way to a push for a playoff spot.
NOTE: You can catch the game live on our ICE TV tab above! Game times are 4pm on Nov 3 and 9:45 am on Nov 4. We will be unveiling our NEW play by play team this week. Stay tuned.

Thompson Blazers vs Kootenay Ice October 27th
ICE GET FIRST WIN OF 2012/13 SEASON
The Kootenay Ice finally put in a stong 60 minute performance. Led by goalie Adam Maida who was simply awsome in goal. Adam stooped 36 of 38 shots fired his way for a .957 save %. Our offence began to show some signsof confidence as we scored more than 2 goals in a game for the first time this season, led by Brandon Sookro with his 2nd of the season, Kyle Hope with his first of the year and welcome back to our Captain Justin Post, with his first of the year.
Some untimely penalties late in the third allowed the Blazers a late chance to tie the game, but Maida and the team defensively held the fort. It was the first time this season that Assistant Coach Sean Dooley was in charge of the bench, as Head Coach Mario DiBella was in New York visiting his daughter, a member of the NCAA Colgate Raiders Womens Div 1 Hockey Team.
We look for our first sweep of the year, when we host the Thompson Blazers tomorrow at Cominco Arena in Trail. Game time is 9:45 am. The game will again be broadcast on our ICE TV. To view click on ICE TV tab. We are proud to announce our NEW Play by Play team starting next weekend. Please watch for that news release early next week.

On Saturday Oct 20, the players of both the Cariboo Cougars and Kootenay Ice were extremely proud to be part of a VERY special event. Jameson Jones, is a young man who has overcome cancer, not once, but, twice. He is a HUGE fan and inspiration to the Cougar organization, and our team was glad to be a part of this very special event. Thank you to the Cougars, and we encourage our fan base to find out more about this young man, his passion for the BCMML, and find a way to donate to his cause. This event was critical in raising over $1,000 for Jameson. What an inspirational young man!

Oct 26, 2012 Thompson Blazers vs Kootenay Ice October 29 & 28
Preview
Hello West Kootenays!! Its been almost a month since we played in front of the friendly confines of our local arenas. This weekend, we welcome the Thompson Blazers to the Cominco Arena in Trail.
Both games have been pushed up to an early start due to the Team Canada Sledge Hockey team selection camp, being held in Trail this weekend. If you have never seen these AMAZING athletes perform their craft, we certainly recommend everyone come and watch, it is truly inspirational for all involved.
This weekend, the Thompson Blazers bring in 2 members iof the newly appointed TEAM BC U16 roster. Nicholas Chyzowski, a 1997 forward who has 3 goals in 9 games for the Blazers this year, and was a high bantam draft pick of his hometown Blazers. Stalwart defenceman, Kevin Davis, 1997, participated in the NHLPA mentorship program this past summer, and was a high bantam draft of the Everett Silvertips, 11th overall. We are excited to see how they represent TEAM BC at the annual Challenge Cup held Nov 1-4 in Calgary, Alberta.
The Blazers are off to a slow start this BCMML season. They come in with a record of 1 win and 9 losses, and sit 2 points ahead of the Ice in the league standings. With the expanded playoff format, this simply is the first real BIG weekend the ICE face. They need both wins, to gain some momentum, and push for that last playoff spot.
The Blazers are led by 1997 forward Ryan Cliffird who has 2g-5a for 7pts in 10 games this season and Cole McCaskill, a 1996 born defenceman who has 1g-6a for 7pts in 8 games this season.
Leading the Ice attack this year to date have been 1997 forward Daine Elphicke with 1g-2a for 3pts in 10 games this year, and 1996 born forward Greyson Reitmeier who also has 1g-2a for 3 pts in 9 games this season for the ICE.
The ICE are currently the second youngest team in the BCMML with 8, 1997 born players. Meanwhile the Blazers bring with them 11, 1997 born players.
NOTE: you can watch both games this weekend without play by play on our website, by clicking on the ICE TV tab!
